Long-term support for a custom PHP application

Context. Square Eye, a web agency, had a high-profile client running a custom PHP application that sat outside the agency’s usual skillset.

What we did. We have supported that application for Square Eye over a number of years, handling development and support requests so the agency could keep its client’s system running and improving.

Why it matters. Much valuable software is neither new nor built on the latest framework. Being able to work confidently in someone else’s custom code is what lets agencies take on — and keep — clients like this. See legacy modernisation.

A volunteer recruitment and training management system

Context. The Listening Place, a charity, needed a system built around how it recruits, trains and manages its volunteers.

What we built. A custom Laravel application for volunteer recruitment and training management, which we have continued to develop and maintain over several years.

Why it matters. Internal systems like this live or die by how well they fit the organisation’s real process — and by being looked after once they’re in use. See web application development.
