SaaS development

SaaS development from a team that runs its own SaaS product — including the unglamorous work that starts the day after launch.

Who this is for

Founders and product owners building a subscription product, and businesses turning an internal tool into something they can sell. You need a developer who understands the product, not just a list of tickets.

What building our own SaaS product taught us

We build and operate PaidProper, client management software for tradespeople. Running it ourselves means we deal directly with trials that need nudging, failed payments, customers who invite their team, emails that must arrive on time and a marketing site that has to rank. That experience shapes how we build SaaS for others.

What we build

  • Accounts and teams — sign-up, onboarding, team membership, invitations and roles.
  • Billing — subscriptions, trials, plan changes and failed-payment handling with Stripe and Laravel Cashier.
  • Product architecture — a data model and tenancy approach that suits the product and its likely growth.
  • Email and notifications — transactional email, reminders, digests and in-app notifications.
  • Integrations — accounting software, calendars, payment providers and webhooks.
  • Background work — queues and scheduled jobs for anything that shouldn’t happen during a web request.
  • Internationalisation — PaidProper, for example, is available in ten languages.

After launch

The first release is the start. Most of a SaaS product’s life is spent iterating: improving onboarding, responding to support, adding the features customers actually ask for, keeping dependencies current and making sure the product stays fast. We plan for that from the beginning and can stay involved for as long as you need.

Marketing site and SEO

A SaaS product needs to be found. We build marketing pages, feature pages and content architecture with technical SEO in mind from the start, rather than bolting it on later.

How an engagement usually works

We begin by agreeing what the first paying customer needs, then build towards that in small releases. Once the product is live, we usually continue on an ongoing basis.

Common questions

Can you help us build an MVP?
Yes, with a caveat: the first version should be small, but the foundations — accounts, billing and data model — should be ones you can grow on. We help decide which corners are safe to cut and which aren’t.
Do you provide product direction as well as development?
Yes. Because we run our own products, we can contribute to pricing, onboarding, feature priorities and marketing-site SEO, not just the build.
Which payment provider do you recommend?
For most UK SaaS products, Stripe with Laravel Cashier is a good default, and it’s what PaidProper uses. The right answer depends on your billing model, so we’ll talk it through.
  • Laravel development

Modern Laravel and PHP development for new applications, existing systems and long-term products.
  • Technical SEO

Technical SEO rooted in how websites are actually built: architecture, crawlability, performance, structured data, content and internal linking.
